Whole-House Repiping in Las Vegas, NV

Some Las Vegas homes built from the mid 1990s to the mid 2000s were plumbed with Kitec, a pipe and fitting system that was later the subject of a class-action settlement over premature failures. Homes with Kitec often need the system replaced, since the fittings tend to fail in more than one place.

What is different about whole-house repiping in Las Vegas?

Kitec is usually easy to spot: bright orange pipe for hot and blue for cold, with brass fittings, sometimes stamped Kitec or KTC. Look at the water heater in the garage and under sinks. The brass fittings corrode, restricting flow and eventually leaking, and the hot lines tend to go first.

Because so many valley homes are slab-on-grade and built in the same years, repiping here is a well-practiced job: new lines are run through the attic and down the walls, with the old system abandoned. The water is very hard, so discuss a softener loop while walls are open. Permits come from the City of Las Vegas, Clark County, Henderson or North Las Vegas depending on the address.

Kitec replacement

Homes with Kitec piping often need the system replaced rather than patched, since fittings tend to fail in more than one place.

What to check and ask before work starts in Las Vegas

  • Ask the plumber to confirm whether the pipe is Kitec and how much of the house it serves
  • Ask what replacement material is proposed and how attic runs will be insulated
  • Ask whether drywall and texture repair are included
  • Verify the license with the Nevada State Contractors Board

Licensing and permits for whole-house repiping in Las Vegas

Plumbing contractors in Nevada are licensed by the Nevada State Contractors Board, where you can verify a license. Permits are issued by the City of Las Vegas or, for much of the valley including the Strip corridor, by Clark County; Henderson and North Las Vegas issue their own.

Keystream Plumbing is a referral service. We do not perform plumbing work or hold a contractor license. The independent plumber you are connected with is responsible for licensing, permits and the work itself.

Whole-House Repiping questions from Las Vegas

Is Kitec plumbing dangerous?

It is not a health hazard, but it is prone to fitting corrosion and leaks, which cause water damage. Because failures tend to occur at several points over time, replacement is usually recommended instead of repeated patching.

Can I still file a Kitec settlement claim?

The class-action settlement had a claims deadline that has passed. Check the official settlement information or ask an attorney if you have questions about your situation; a plumber cannot advise on legal claims.
